This Preceptory was consecrated on 22nd September 1933 at the Masonic Guildhall, Stockport by Cuthbert Leicester-Warren, the Provincial Prior, with nine founder members, seven of whom were from De Tabley. The first Eminent Preceptor was Alfred G W Provart, the Provincial Marshal.
Initially the Founders did not wish to revive the name of Love and Friendship which was originally founded in 1809 in Stockport and was numbered 14.
It was erased in 1894 and the Minute Books are lost. Little is therefore known apart from references in Provincial Minutes and other records. In the 1870s it was in a healthy state and had between 15 and 20 members. In fact the Preceptory made no returns to Province after 1881, and the news that the Warrant was to be forfeit seemed to meet with no resistance.
On 23rd March 1933 Warren Hastings, the Chancellor, wrote to George Leigh, the Sub-Prior, petitioning for the formation of a new KT Preceptory, but rejecting the revival of the old name; on 29th March the Chancellor wrote to E Kt Provart and asked to know in writing why they had rejected the name. There is no reply recorded and no alternative suggested. On 30th March a letter from Hastings to the Provincial Prior makes it clear the Founders had had a change of heart and the consecration went ahead.
After 72 years the Preceptory, suffering from poor attendance and falling membership, moved from the Stockport Masonic Guildhall in January 2005 to Bushell Road, Neston, Wirral, where it has continued to prosper.
